Sierra County Board of REALTORS®
Earl Greer, 2019 President
216 Warm Springs Rd. Elephant Butte, NM 87935
In 1950, TV game show host, Ralph Edwards made a unique offer to the towns in America: “Change your name to Truth or Consequences and I’ll bring my show there for a live broadcast.” Hot Springs, NM rose to the challenge and Mr. Edwards brought his crew to the newly named, Truth or Consequences for the first time on April Fool’s Day.
Today, Truth or Consequences (or T or C, as the locals like to call it) is the county seat with a small-town vibe. The town sits atop a natural aquifer that produces warm water perfect for a natural hot spring mineral bath experience. T or C is also known for Spaceport America, the world’s first purpose-built commercial spaceport. But Sierra County is also a land of wide open spaces and beautiful scenery that varies from desert to grasslands to mountainous regions. Portions of the Aldo Leopold Wilderness Area and the Gila National Forest are within our boundaries, making Sierra County an ideal place to experience nature.
The county’s three major bodies of water, Elephant Butte Lake State Park, Caballo State Park and Percha Dam State Park are favorites among anglers, who fish for Walleye, Catfish, and Bass. The lakes are so popular, an average weekend can easily quadruple the surrounding towns’ population with boating and recreational use. Sierra County has strong art community with galleries sporting local artists.
